Zucker, Philip (Feivel). Holocaust survivor. Passed away peacefully on Shabbat, February 18, 2017. Beloved husband of Helen (Chaya). Loving father and father-in-law of Faye and Martin Kellerstein, Shirley and Jeffrey Stutz, and Bella and Joel Shupac. Devoted grandfather of Rebecca (Daniel), Jeremy (Jennie), David (Tali), Eli (Tziona), Adam, Eric (Orli), Aliza (Louis), Jodie, and Joseph. Proud great-grandfather of sixteen. Special thanks to his wonderful caregivers at Baycrest and Pine Villa, and excellent medical staff. Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 20, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Steeles Memorial Chapel, 350 Steeles Ave. West, Thornhill. Interment to follow at Mount Sinai Cemetery, Shaarei Shomayim Synagogue section. Hi Fay, I am very sorry to hear about the passing of your Great Father, My Teacher. I was just thinking of him last night as I am going to read the whole parshat Tzav at Beth Tzedek and was actually going to ask if I could do it at Shaarei Shomayim this year in his honour. When my father died and the service was at Shaarei Shomayim, when I exited the building, your father was there and gave me the biggest hug which I feel to this day! Mrs Zucker and family: I was so very, very saddened to hear of Mr. Zucker's death. I have so many wonderful memories of him...not the least that he was instrumental in helping my son, Yoni prepare for his Bar Mitzvah at Shaarei Shomayim all those years ago...21 years ago a week Shabbat Shira, Parshat Beshallach. More recently, through the past few years I would greet him when on the way to the Village Shul, as his son's pushed his wheelchair on Old Park to WestPark where he would be taken for Shabbat davening. He was a lovely gentleman and I will always remember him with great fondness and respect. May his Neshama have an aliyah in Yerushalyim and may you his family be comforted with all the mourners of Zion and Yerushalyim. I will try my best to get to the shiva. A hug for you, Mrs. Zucker...I enjoyed your company when you would attend shabbat davening at the Village Shul, years ago. Janice Lebow

Chaya, Faye, Shirley and Bella, We were so saddened to learn of the ptirah of such a wonderful and caring teacher and valued member of the family. I will always remember the times sitting at the piano and doing my best to be 'on key' and the frustration he must have had but never showed for me, and our two sons.. Coincidence…. This week is my father’s 2nd yahrzeit and I was given to do the haftorah. I was given the Sefer Hahaftorot at Rishon – given about 15 minutes notice. Then I was thinking that the way your father taught – learn the notes, know how to read, combine – would ensure I could read on a moment’s notice. I did just that. For the past several years, i have read Haftorat Chazon. I went to your father just to make sure i was doing it correctly. Only when he said i was prepared, did I feel comfortable. It is with the fondest of memories that I recall my dear teacher for Bar Mitzvah preparation, Mr. Zucker. I can honestly say that he inspired me to have a true and genuine love and appreciation for chanting from the Tanach. It was always with great pride that I offerd, and continue to offer his name when asked who taught me for that special day so many years ago. I recall when returning to Canada from Israel, and shortly after beginning a position as a Ba'al Kri'ah at a synagogue in Toronto, I called on him with some very specific and esoteric questions about laining. He was delighted to be challenged with such, and unhesitatingly offered the appropriate responses. May his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure to know him and benefit from his knowledge and experience find comfort in those memories in the coming days. Yehi zichro baruch.

Dearest Bella, I received, just now, the sad news of your father's passing. Losing a parent is painful and life-changing. When my mother was getting older and older, I was upset and very afraid I would not survive without her. She said to me, "Don't worry. You will always have me...You will always have me." We can never know what was the Holocaust and how are parents survived those horrors. But we can enjoy being the beneficiary of their love ... for the rest of our lives. The future is long. We were truly privileged to have your father daven with us in recent years and on occasion read Torah for us. He was a wonderful link to the past even as he was so fully part of the present. And, through his daughters, he made his presence felt in the Minyan for most of its history, as new generations of members acquired the skill of reading Torah and the Megilot. Y'hi zichro baruch.

Our heart felt condolences on the loss of this pillar in our community. My husband and son and daughter, were amongst the countless multi -generational families who were privilaged to have had such a sweet, kind, and memorable experience attached to their Bar and B'nai Mitzvah. In my husband's case, he may have had the distinction of having started out as one of the worst Bar Mitzvah students , while my son and daughter, may have been in the more competent group. But each experience , was a gift, a privilege and remembered as remarkable. Like countless others, every student shared in reaching their full potential under the most inspirational guidance. Dear Zucker family, I will always remember my bar mitzvah teacher Mr. Zucker and the many hours we spent together at the Shaarei Shomayim on St. Clair. He would have me read any three words from the Chumash and would continue on from there- he had the whole Torah memorized. I remember studying with him by candlelight during the blackout of 1965. He was a lovely patient man/ sang in my ear because I was tone deaf- . Great teacher and a beautiful person. Condolences
