VAN DER SLUIS, Elias (Eddy). On Friday June 17, 2016 at 88 years of age. Beloved husband of Esther for 62 years. Loving father and father-in-law of Louis & Risa and Joel & Marci. Devoted grandfather to Daniel & Stacey, Jonathan, Avi & Maddie, Yona & Adam, Eli, Rebecca, Lauren & Scott, Sarah & Josh, Ari, and Jordie. A holocaust survivor and past Parness at Shaarei Tefillah for 25 years. Special thanks to Ana David and his other caregivers and his doctors for their care. Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at Steeles Memorial Chapel, 350 Steeles Ave. West, Thornhill. Interment to follow at Mount Sinai Cemetery, Shaarei Tefillah Synagogue section. Shiva at the Terraces of Baycrest, 55 Ameer Avenue, 11th floor. Shiva Details: Following the internment, Shiva will begin in the Fireside Lounge at the Terraces of Baycrest, Main Floor. Shiva will continue afterwards on the 11th floor of the Terraces. Shiva visits daily from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, 2:00 to 4:00 pm, and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Shiva will conclude on Sunday morning June 26th.

Dear Esther, Louis, Joel and (many) grandchildren, We were saddened by the sudden deterioration and passing of Ed. We will always remember him as a vibrant, outgoing, and caring man. When he and Esther visited Israel, they were able to spend some time with us many years ago. We always enjoyed Ed's friendliness and warmth to us at family simchas and gatherings. Tante Esther, Louis, Risa, Joel & Marci, and all the Vandersluis family.... We will miss Oom Eddie greatly, and send our deepest condolences. Oom Eddie was not just an cherished cousin, but also a close and trusted family friend, whose perspectives and advice was cherished. Full of charm, wit, kindness and wisdom, he was always interested in the whereabouts and activities of the extended family. He will be sorely missed. May his life be inspiration and blessing to us all.

Just to say that had I Iived closer, I would have sat Shiva with you. Instead I have lit a Shiva candle for the Shiva week le Kavod Willem for Eddy and am adhering to the Shiva rules for a family member.
