George Mintzberg

Mintzberg, George, passed away peacefully in his 73rd year surrounded by family on Sunday, June 17, 2018 after a courageous battle with heart disease. George is survived by his loving and devoted wife Paula in their 50th year of marriage. Loving father and father-in-law of Bob & Shani, and Phil & Orli. Cherished Zaidy of Alyssa, Braydon and Nicole. Funeral at Steeles Memorial Chapel, 350 Steeles Ave West on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Shiva: 52 McKelvey Drive, Thornhill on Wednesday following the interment up to 9:00 p.m. – see Steeles Memorial website at http://steelesmemorialchapel.com/condolence/george-mintzberg/ for further Shiva dates and times. Dear Paula, Bobby and Phil we were very saddened to hear of Georges passing. As you know we go back a long long way to our teenage years in Montreal. So I just want to remind you of some of the funny memories had together. 1) Having his mothers car breakdown 1 o'clock in the morning on a back road in the middle of the Laurentians, and having a farmer tow us with his tractor to repair the car. We had $20 between us and that's what we paid for the repairs. BTW he still owes me. 2) Sending a wreath to his office when the Canadians beat the Hawks in a Stanley Cup final. 3) Couldn't keep a secret, he was keeping me occupied for a surprise party on my 21st birthday. Took about 3 minutes for him to spill the beans. He will be missed but never forgotten. I'm sorry that I will not be able to attend the service, as I am away in the US on a business trip. We were saddened to hear of Georges Passing, we have been friends going back to our teenage years where we had some fun memories. here are just a few of them. 1) Driving back from New York in my 1965 Volvo which took 12 hours of non stop driving in a blackout fog. 2) Getting stuck with his mothers car in the middle of the night (1 AM) in the Laurentians. Condolences on your loss. As I continue on my genealogy research journey I try to connect with cousins I never knew I had and sadly I did not get the opportunity to do so with George. His grandmother Pearl Pickard was my grandfather Sam’s Berger’s sister. From reading other peoples’ posts it seems like I would have really liked to have known him. Dear George I’m devastated by your death. When u saw you days ago in Sunnybrook, I so appreciated your smiles and the silent communication we continued for 3 hours. Your squeezing my hand and your successful attempts to communicate was particularly warm to me and soothing to my heart. Thank you for letting me come to Sunnybrook to spend time with you. I certainly hoped that that would have been the first a many visits but it not to be. Never occurred to me that after my visit 10 days ago wiould be my last, I love you Gieorge and will akwata love you We’re known each iother since 1964 at SirGeorge Williams university I watch you direct a contrivercial musical “”Come Blow Your Your Horrn. But for me you taught me how to laugh at life and mist important how to belly laugh and on the serious side you sat me down and taught me how to concentrate on the areas of my life.that we crucial to me.God bless you , George. You may be resting without pain in your sacred new home but you living in my heart and will alway be there. Paula - to you , your children and grandchildren I wish you the continued joy of great memories and God knows there are many. Hear his voice, his laugh, his fingers-to-throat cough, but most of all his great love for you all. Dear Paula, Bobby , Phillip and family. How saddened we are to learn of the passing of your beloved husband, father . father in law and our very good friend. . Words are hard to come by at a time like this but memories and good times with both our families will be etched in our minds and hearts forever. I have known George for an eternity starting with our AZA B'nai B'rith days and evolving into adult B'nai B'rith with the Fargeons. . It became apparent then that involvement and commitment was George's destiny and was always the catalyst that propelled our Lodge to be the best it can be. Your choice of rooting for the Black Hawks over the Canadians however left a lot to be desired but in hindsight you were way ahead of the curve as evidenced by today's poor performance of our once mighty hockey team. The many trips to Lake Placid for our summer holidays with our young kids in tow and the numerous sleep overs in our home during your return visits to Montreal is stuff that cements a relationship and not easily forgotten. May your pleasant memories and good times sustain you during your period of bereavement. All our love Ruth, Irving ,Bonnie and Adam.
