William Parker

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of William (Bill) Louis Parker on Saturday February 16th, 2019, in his home a few short weeks before his 99th birthday.

Predeceased by his siblings Sam, Joe, Jack, Sally, Izzy and Ben. Survived by his sister-in-laws Simmie Baum, Helen Parker of Vancouver and Helen Parker of Toronto. Beloved husband of the late Minnie Parker z”l, father of Mitchell (Cheryl), Parker (Laine) and Carole (Brian). Grandfather of Jonathan (Rina), Ilana (Ben), Isaac, Sarit, Oren and Taylor. Great-Grandfather of Adin, Amiel, Noam, and Miri.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care 416-586-8203 EXT.3936 and to the Baycrest Foundation 416-785-2875.

Funeral will be held at Steeles Memorial at 11:30 am, February 18, 2019, followed by burial at Pardes Shalom Cemetery.

The Shiva will be held at 139 Latimer Avenue, Toronto.

Date of Funeral: Monday, February 18, 2019

Time of Funeral: 11:30 AM

Memorial Service Location: Steeles Memorial Chapel, 350 Steeles Ave W, Thornhill, Chapel service.

Burial Service Location: 10953 Dufferin St, Maple Lagover Section

Shiva Details: Shiva visits daily from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The family has requested that no visits take place between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Shiva visits on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Shiva concludes Sunday morning, February 24.

Bill was a lovely, warm generous man. He visited my father several times a week at Baycrest but, since my father had dementia at the time and didn’t remember, I would not have known had one of his caregivers not asked about the kind man who visited so frequently. It was easy to figure out. My father was blessed to have him as a friend. Our deepest condolences to Carole, Brian and Mitchell, and their families.

To the family of William Parker: I was saddened to hear the news of your father's petira. I came to the shiva when your Mom passed away and had a nice chat with your dad. We had been together in Israel years ago with a Beth Emeth trip and would see them a lot when I was at Beth Emeth all those years ago. Also too they were related to my late Uncle, Murray (Morris) Pearl who was married to my aunt Jessie Pearl. May your memories sustain you and I know he was a proud father and grandfather. Bill will be missed by all of those who knew him, including is friends and family from the Lagover Society. It was very interesting to hear his stories from his birthplace of Lagow. There are nobody left, that I know of, who was born in Lagow, now that Bill has passed away.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Mr. Parker. Though I didn't know him well, he was a real gentleman. My mother, a"h, Toni Kurtz, greatly enjoyed his company at Baycrest, where I had the pleasure of meeting him. HaMakom y'nachem etchem b'toch sh'ar aveilei Tzion v'Yerushalayim. Hershel & Thirza Kammer

We got to know your father when we moved to The Terrace in August. We sat together for dinner and enjoyed his company,. Up until a couple of months ago he was one of the regulars at Shul on Shabbos and would get the Kohen Aliya every Shabbos - he was so proud of that. So fortunate for the shul as he was the only Kohen! Many Fri nights we would sing Zmirot together. One Saturday afternoon in the summer he was sitting on a bench outside, and started singing Zmirot - so we joined in. He enjoyed telling us stories of his childhood and later life, we will miss him. The Parkers were our "across the road' neighbours on Palm Drive. Of course Bill was Mr. Parker to me, in those days. Through being invited to several Parker family Simchas, I got to know Bill quite well. He was a very bright and engaging fellow. It was always such a pleasure to speak with him. May the family always look back on fond memories of him.
