My sincere condolencs to Stephen's family. He and I were opposing counsel many imes over the years. He was always courteous, respectful and friendly towards me and was an excellent lawyer. I was shocked to hear of his passing.

Growing up, my family lived on the next block from Steven's family and I knew him as a friend of my younger brother. Later in life, we reconnected living in the same building where we spent many hours together chatting in the gym. Always good company and a pleasure to be with. I was shocked to hear of his passing. My deepest sympathy to Stephen's family and loved ones. Stephen was my colleague and next door neighbor at work for many years. He convinced me I would not be fired when I thought I had made a mistake; he made me chuckle and provided wise counsel. I will always remember his sharp mind, his quick wit and his love of obscure British jurisprudence, which tickled him and those he shared this with. His friendship and collegiality were a delight.

I'm very sorry for the loss to the Gold family. Stephen mentored me when I was an articling student at the Department of Justice. Although it was 15 years ago, I still think about his advice and wisdom. He was a wonderful man to work for: witty, urbane and intelligent. I mourn for him.

I was honored with the position of being Stephen's assistant for many wonderful years. He was chivalrous, thoughtful, and an amazing ability to put someone at ease with his laughter and kindness. My sincerest condolences to his family. He is missed.

As I told Stephen on his retirement: "You have always been the most collegial of colleagues. The inimitably acute concision of your advocacy has been an inspiration. Your scholarship puts much of the new generation to shame. Your mentorship over the years has been invaluable to our division. You have left an indelible mark." Stephen was one of a kind and I am saddened at his passing.

I am very sorry to hear of Stephen's passing. I worked with him for several years at the Department of Justice before he left due to illness. I will in particular remember his lively comments and advice that he would give at the section meetings we used to have in the old office. He truly was an individual and he was very passionate about his work.

My deepest condolences. Stephen was my colleague at the Department of Justice. He was a brilliant lawyer and persuasive advocate, and also a supportive and friendly mentor to junior counsel. He had a gift for finding the right turn of phrase and brought panache to his craft. He was always civil and highly professional. Stephen has been missed at work during his illness and we will continue to miss him now that he is gone.

I was shocked and saddened to hear the news of Stephen's passing on my return from overseas. I have lived across the hall from him for over 25 years having met him the day the day I moved in.
