Frank (Israel) Steiman

On Sunday April 19, 2020, dear husband, father and Zaida passed away peacefully at home. Frank was born in Montreal on May 25, 1932 to David and Pearl, of blessed memory. Pre-deceased by sisters Mary Goldwater and Roslyn Spivak and brother Bernard Steiman, of blessed memory. Frank leaves behind his beloved “dear” Esther, children Debbie and Joel Zeger, Howard Steiman and Rochelle Direnfeld and Lorne Steiman, and grandchildren Samantha and Taryn, Jeffrey, Sammy and Sydney. Donations in Frank’s memory may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation 416-489-7111.

To the Steiman family: My wife Andrea and I are saddened to hear of Frank's passing. I was a co-chorister of Frank's in the Beth Emeth Bais Yehudah Choir of which he was part of since it's inception in 1965. He was an extremely intelligent choir member who understood music better than most of his fellow choir members and certainly most BEBY shul members. Frank lived and loved to sing. He is hopefully now singing tenor in the choir of L'Olam Haba with our late beloved Cantor Louis Danto and the other deceased choir members. Dear Esther, Howard, Lorne and family, I can't think of a single day that I haven't known Frank and Esther. The Loomers sat near the Steiman's on the High Holy Days at Beth Emeth and eventually, just like Howard, I later joined the choir and sang with Frank for many years until becoming the assistant cantor at Beth Emeth and then singing with Frank again. More recently, I had the pleasure of seeing Frank very often at Beth David where he loved to sit at the back of the Chapel and participate in the minyan in so many ways. Frank loved Judaism, singing and doing acts of gemilut chesed. I never heard him say a negative thing about anyone and he was always encouraging to me personally. He always talked about how proud he was of his children and about how much he loved dear Esther. I will miss Frank so much and I can only imagine the emptiness in your hearts at this moment. Michael & Rochelle Kerzner

Frank was a valued addition to the choir at Beth Emeth for many years. Always happy to greet congregants when he was singing in the Choir. I remember his voice and the amazing delight he had with participating with some of Canada's finest Cantors including; our Beloved Louis Danto Z'L and Aaron Bensoussan. Frank was a mensh par excellence, and it is so sad that he passed away. May his good name and love of Jewish Music be a blessing for us all. Michael S. Dear Aunty Esther, Debbie and Joel, Howard and Rochelle, Lorne and all of the grandchildren. Larry and I are very sorry to hear about Uncle Frank's passing. He was always kind, loving and very present. He helped my Mom out so much when my Dad passed so early on. Uncle Frank I love that you came to visit for every party even if the directions were so poor, you figured out how to get here. You were a rock in our family. Love from all of us, Brooke and Simon, Britni and Dave , Liam and now little Benny. My Mom would have so many things to say here. She loved you very much.

I know this is late but I hope the family gets this anyway. Frank has known me most of my life, since I was a kid. I am sorry that under the current "social distancing" I could not pay personal respects. It is unfortunate that he has left us. Frank was a regular at the 7am Beth David minyan. I always enjoyed hearing his dovening from the back row of the chapel, often belting out a few words to wake us all up! His company afterwards at the breakfast table was where we really got to know Frank as such a nice man. He'd share stories and pictures about his kids and grandchildren with great pride. Dear Steiman Family. So sorry for your loss. Uncle Frank always presided over our family Jewish holiday dinners with such passion. My fond memory of him was when I was a kid and went with him and my cousins to a drive in theater. I fell asleep during the movie (a trait I still do to this day watching movies :)) and he carried me back to my cousins home on Combe Ave. to sleep over. I still own Loblaws stock that he always told be to buy and hold as it will split many times. Rest in peace Uncle Frank. Love Barry.
