Nettie Shoub - Steeles Memorial Chapel

On Wednesday, September 30, our mother Nettie Shoub peacefully passed away.

She was the loving and beloved wife of the late Sidney Shoub. Adored mother and mother-in-law of Ian Shoub and Victoria Alechine, Robert Shoub and Debbie Hiscock, Jaclyn Shoub and Shawn Thomas. Loving sister and sister-in-law of the late Miriam and Nathan Ostrow, the late Ruth and Jerry Finkleman, Lila and the late Harry Stein, and Lila and the late Bernard Shoub. Devoted Bubby of Laura and Zak Gotkin, Danielle Shoub and Ben Horn, and Evan Shoub and Celina Varga.

Our mom leaves behind many loving nephews, nieces, and friends in Toronto, Montreal and elsewhere who also mourn her passing.

Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation 416-489-7111.

Mom, you lived a long and full life, and your strength and character will always be an inspiration to us.

Rest peacefully Mom.

The family has requested that Shiva observances are to be strictly private.

So sorry to hear of Auntie Nettie’s passing. My memories of her include my visits to Toronto, and my coming over to the apartment for a one on one dinner. Precious memories. The fish burned while I was looking at Uncle Sid’s stamp collection, and the second time, we decided on tuna-fish sandwiches. Funny the things that one remembers and cherishes. Nettie and Syd were such dear friends to my mother-in-law, Anne Smith. Through that relationship, I was able to form my own bond with Nettie. She was interesting to listen to and provided wise advice. As Anne declined over the past 10 years, I have seen/spoken to Nettie less and less but she will always hold a special place in my heart. My sincere condolences to all her family.

As a kid, I spent a lot of time in the Shoub home growing up with Jaclyn, and have many fond memories of Nettie as she so warmly welcomed me as an extended member of her family. She made the best chicken soup too. Jaclyn, Rob, Ian and family, my hope is that your loving memories will help carry you through the hardest days and that time will help soften this loss for you all.

We knew Nettie and Sid over many years from Temple Emanu-El. We always enjoyed our conversations with Nettie who had an optimistic bent. She was genuinely interested in what we had to say which made her as good a conversationalist as she was a fine person. We shall remember her with fondness and smiles.
