Max Swartz

I met Max in the 80's in St. Martin when he lived on Brunswick Avenue. We we friends for a number of years and as life has a way of doing drifted for a number of years - I moved, married and travelled.. I refound Max a few years back after an extensive search and was shocked when he updated me of his last number of years. We met up a few times to catch up, share stories, confidences and yes a few laughs and then life got in the way again. Looking up an old friend again I am saddened to find this news I am so sorry - what fate for Max who loved life as much as people. Max was truly one of a kind and will be missed.

I guess that I was maybe 7 or 8 when I first met the most outrageous kid of my life. It was in Belle Ewart, his brother Abbie was starting to work for my Uncle Albert to become a butcher and Max was hanging around. He was a few years older than me. We reconnected around my age of 17 and the things that we did together, I cannot post. The parties, the clubs, the crazy nights out and the characters that he attracted. Many embraced him, like my family but some wives were "don't bring that guy into our home." They missed out on some fun Friday night dinners. Max had great respect for women, great respect for people in general and generous to a fault to any friend who was in need, in trouble. I knew his mother Margaret and she was to say, interesting. He was the ultimate Peter Pan, he did not want to grow up and he lived a full life until that tragic accident that ruined his mobility. We had a falling out, he went through an angry period and time passed. I am sad to learn of his passing, Larry Wolstat and I shared many a Max evening together along with the late Earl Wolstat. He left a lot of memories for us, and for me the memories he left make me smile! One-of-a-kind for sure. I am sorry that we not reconnect in his last years, that falls on both of us.

Maxie was one of a kind! My kids called him " Uncle Maxie". He was fun, outrageous, crazy at times, but with a heart of gold. He was generous and always willing to help a friend in need. He will be missed by many. May he rest in peace and his memory be for a blessing. My deepest condolences to his family.

As a long time friend, I loved him not only because he was a kind person and friendly person, but because I personally knew he helped many many people and asked for nothing in return. I will sadly miss him.
