The mitzvah of accompanying the dead to the final resting place is so great it supersedes all other mitzvot, including Torah study. The Mitzvah to bury the dead is rather unique. The Talmud teaches (Moed Katan 27b teaches-- " – “מת בעיר כל בני העיר אסורין בעשיית מלאכה..." the responsibility of any Jew is shared by the entire community and until it is taken care of, the people of the city are forbidden from doing work.” In a story quoted in the Talmud, it becomes clear that this is taken quite literally. Rav Hamnuna observed a situation in the south of Israel where a death was announced and people continued working and he demanded their excommunication. It was only when he was assured of the existence of a Chevra Kadisha, which assumed the burden and removed the obligation from the rest of the community, that he was mollified. Your words are beautiful Amanda! I am beyond sorry for your loss. I wish I could be there. I honestly can not believe it. She always treated me like a daughter, even the first time we met, and of course the millions of times after. There will never be another - she was one of a kind. And will forever be sincerely missed!

Ariella and Amanda I have just found out about Helen's passing . This has deeply saddened me. We were inseparable friends in our teenage years . We just reunited about 3 years ago and I am happy to have had the pleasure to see her about 2 years ago or so. This is so late but please accept my condolences .
