Ian lived knowing that there is no guarantee of ‘later’ or ‘tomorrow.’ He understood that there is no ‘time,’ only love. And he was pure love. He gave his whole heart to his wife Janice, his children Ryan, Daniella and Kim and their partners Angele, Gabe and Daniel. Built for grandparenthood, he shone in his role as Zabbey to Matthew, Noa, Hazel, Zoey and Russell.

People were his treasures. He nurtured all his relationships from those with his parents Rae and Boomie, to his siblings Charlene, Stanley and Sandra and all his nieces and nephews. He was the keeper of family stories, the bearer of good news, the enthusiast, the one who began songs and chants for others to take up. He led by example, exuding compassion, generosity, connection and kindness, effortlessly and boundlessly.

He became an ambassador to help people come to terms with death and dying, believing we are all terminal from the day we are born. He believed in a higher power and that he would leave when he was called without fear or regret. He taught everyone not only how to live, but how to die.

His legacy, ‘life is not a dress rehearsal’ is etched into the hearts of everyone who knew him.
