It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anna Firszt on Monday, January 15, 2024, peacefully in hospital surrounded by her family. Anna was pre-deceased by her loving husband Jose last year, and she will be forever remembered by her three children and their spouses, Natalie (Stewart Padveen), Rafi (Alyssa), and Matthew (Kate), as well as her beloved grandchildren Ryan, Jesse, Ben, Rowan, Madeline, Jacob and Riley. She is survived by her brother Abe Perelmuter (Chani).
Anna was born in Sweden in 1948 to parents Raizel and Tsvi, who were both survivors of the Holocaust. Anna moved to Montreal, Canada in 1952 at the age of 4. She studied education at Concordia University, followed by a Masters degree in Special Education at Simon Fraser University. She then returned to Montreal, where she met and married Jose. In addition to becoming a devoted mother to Natalie, Rafi, and Matthew, Anna began her career in education. Anna was a passionate and dedicated elementary school teacher for 35 years at JPPS, teaching kindergarten as well as yiddish and math. Even after her retirement, kids of all ages always gravitated towards her warmth and animated personality, making her the best “Nana” to her grandchildren, of whom she was endlessly proud. Anna’s many close friends and family will forever cherish her infinite kindness, warm smile, and amazing sense of humour.
