We are saddened to announce the passing of Helen Katz-Lazer on Tuesday, July 30th, 2024. Beloved wife of the late Murray Lazer and Harry Katz. Loving mother of Neil Katz and Marc Katz. Cherished Grandma of Julian and Malcolm Katz. The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to all of the staff at Sunrise of Thornhill for their outstanding care and compassion over the last several years. She will be greatly missed.

May her memory be for a blessing. I am supremely grateful her children cared for her. As a young woman, Helen was a beautiful bride. She had actually modeled for a time in New York and was tall, regal and stately. She faced many difficult challenges. May her memory be for a blessing.

Hendel Rifkah bat Mordechai v'Perel was the darling of her 5 uncles who served in the Army, Navy and Air Force during WWII. She was their first pin up girl. As a young woman, the tall, stately Helen modeled at the Flat Iron Building on 5th Avenue which is where she met and married, was the mother to Marc and then became widowed when her husband suddenly perished due to illness created by Nevada-based US atomic testing, a US government foible that was only recognized decades later. Upon her marriage to Harry Katz, Helen emigrated to Toronto and together with Harry, welcomed their son Neil Katz, named after his great grandfather Nathan. Years later, again widowed, Helen married and was the beloved wife of Murray Lazer. Helen had fortitude of character and the ability to enjoy life and her family, despite the many problems that presented themselves. Grateful that during her last illness, she was diligently cared for by her son Neil.

Helen’s stature was always admired. When she was able, she was active, energetic and loved social outings. Walking, swimming and moving fast was her routine. May her memory be a blessing.

I'm so grateful I was able to spend time with Auntie Helen at Sunrise of Thornhill. Before she got sick, she would always drop by my office to say hi and stay for a chat. She was an amazing person. May she rest in peace.

May my cousin Helen’s memory be a blessing. We shared a special birthday. She being the oldest cousin, her birthday was July 4. A national holiday. I was the youngest of all the Quittel cousins and my birthday was Memorial Day, another national holiday. I will miss her.
