It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gloria Boxen (née Goodman) on August 7, 2024, in her 78th year. Gloria’s life is celebrated by her husband Izzie and by her children and their spouses, Jeremy Boxen and Mei Chen, Simone Boxen and Mark Siegel, and David and Tanya Boxen. She was a doting and beloved grandmother to Jack, Nicholas, Jamie, and Leo. She is survived by her siblings Kerry Goodman and Rhonda Lampert.

Born and raised in Toronto, Gloria studied at the Faculty of Food Sciences, University of Toronto (B.Sc. in Food Sciences, 1970, M.Sc., 1972). Her special research interest was in changes in nutritional behaviour.

With a sharp mind and a strong ethical sense, she became a fierce advocate for environmental protection, which she connected to her spirituality and devotion to Judaism. She was a dedicated member of Congregation Darchei Noam, where she became a proud bat mitzvah at the age of 72.

She will be greatly missed by her congregation who meant the world to her and by the extended family, friends, and neighbours she adored. They all found in her company curiosity and kindness, a deep love and knowledge of nature, and a joyful appreciation of music.

The family extends their gratitude to the staff of Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital for their care and compassion.
