Passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025. Beloved wife of Elliot. Loving and devoted mother and mother-in-law of Charlene and Jack Abergel, and Ilana Marcovitch and Jason Sexsmith. Cherished Bubby of Melanie, Emelia, and Jocelyn. Survived by her mother Anna Rosenblum. Predeceased by her father Morris and brother Joseph. She will be sadly missed and remembered by all her family and many friends. Freda was a long standing and well respected administrator of Beth Emeth Synagogue and will be deeply missed.

To the entire Marcovitch family, I knew Freda for many years at Beth Emeth. She always had a smile on her face and was willing to help with any request small or large. We had wonderful conversations when I would see her in the office or at Shabbat Services. Freda will be truly missed by all who knew her. May her memory be for a blessing and of comfort to you. May her soul rise up amongst the other mourners of Zion & Jerusalem. Amen.

Dearest Charlene, Ilana, Elliot and families.... I am so saddened to read of Freda's passing! I've known her since I was a preteen, hanging out with Charlene almost every single day back then. The memory that immediately comes to mind was the fact that I loved the salami sandwiches she would make Charlene for lunch and in turn she would trade her sandwich for mine cause I liked hers so much better! Freda was like a second mom to me back in the day. Her laugh was louder than life and contagious....I am soooo sorry for this terrible loss... sending hugs

My love and friendship for Freda goes back nearly 79 years when we became sister/friends at 8 year old. Her deep-rooted kindness, genuine goodness, and amazing common sense defined her character throughout her life. Her loving “Neshuma “ was always and will continue to be a part of me. Knowing and being loved by Freda was always a blessing and now her memory will continue to be a blessing for all those loved and and were fortunate to be loved by her.

To Elliot, and the entire Marcovitch and Abergel families. Freda was my cousin; her Mother Anna and my Father Alex were siblings and lived in Krakow, in a family of 15 children. They were among the three survivors of their family. Freda and I met as children and teens in Montreal after our families emigrated from Europe after the war. Freda faced many challenges as she grew up. In spite of these difficulties, she lived a life of service and dedication to Jewish values. She married Elliot, raised 2 wonderful daughters, and was a loving grandmother and mother in law, She was an important member of the Toronto Jewish community as an administrator at Beth Emeth Synagogue. Freda was a strong, resilient, humble, and kind woman. A true woman of valor, May her memory be a blessing. הַמָּקוֹם יְנַחֵם אֶתְכֶם בְּתוֹךְ שְׁאָר אֲבֵלֵי צִיּוֹן וִירוּשָׁלַיִם

Your mom was an incredible woman, she loved all her kids and would do anything for them. She sacrificed whatever needed to be in order to make booth her kids and grandchild happy and comfortable. She looked after Elliot the same way. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

To my dear cousins, Our hearts are with you at this moment of loss. Freda was the first of our cousins born after World War II. She was the wisest, kindest, and cheerful mother of a Charlene and Ilana. She always knew the right thing to do and the right thing to say and do. Family was everything to her and she devoted her life caring for others. Her beautiful smile and giggles filled her home and ring in my ears.
