We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Carey Salem, on Monday, September 8, 2025 at Mackenzie Health. Ever an optimist, he fought a courageous battle until the very last moment, a hero to us all.
Carey leaves behind his beloved wife of 52 years, Susan, who was his true love and best friend. He was a proud Father to his son Kyle (Andrea), daughters Jodi (Andy Serwatuk) and Dayna (Cory Bruner) and adoring Zaidy to seven grandchildren – Chloe, Elayna, Mason, Leah, Nolan, Stevie and Parker. Dear brother to Beverly, David and Sandy (Archie Thomas), and Uncle to Erica (Tyler Hamilton).
Carey was a Chartered Accountant, admired by his clients, many who became personal friends over the years. And he cherished all of his friends, some of whom he’d known for more than 65 years. Family was always a top priority for Carey and he enjoyed summers at the cottage when his children were young, spending winters in Florida, swimming with his grandchildren, and building special family memories over the holidays. He enjoyed baseball, especially playing alongside his son, golfing, bowling, and playing bridge, poker and clubbyish.
No words can explain our loss and we are honored to call him Husband, Dad, Zaidy and Brother.
Thank you to his team of healthcare providers at Mackenzie Health and Sunnybrook Health Sciences for their care and compassion.
