Paul Philip Brown, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, teacher, and friend, passed away on November 3, 2025, in Richmond Hill, Ontario, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and wisdom that will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Born on January 30, 1942, in Toronto, Ontario, Paul was the son of Dr. Alexander and Dorothy Brown, and from an early age, he exhibited a passion for education, following in his father’s footsteps to become a teacher and guidance counsellor. He dedicated twenty-five years of his life to the Toronto Board of Education, where he touched the lives of countless students and colleagues with his warmth, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to their success. Even after retirement, Paul continued to share his knowledge and passion for learning by teaching part-time, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of those he taught.
Paul’s love for life was evident in his zest for travel, photography, volunteering, and attending concerts. He had a remarkable ability to make friends wherever he went, and his genuine interest in people enriched his experiences and the lives of those he encountered. His self-published novel, which courageously explored the issue of anti-Semitism in Canada, not only reflected his deep commitment to social justice but also became a part of the curriculum in several Toronto schools.
Above all, Paul’s greatest joy came from his family. He was a pillar of love and support for his children, Bayla Barron, Eli Brown, Rena Levi, Batya Guarisma, Reuven Brown, and Ahuva Brown, as well as his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and their respective partners. Beloved father-in-law to Daniel Barron, Aharon Levi, Rivky Brown and Igor Guarisma. Beloved Zaidy to Uriel, Akiva, Tehila, Meira, Yehoshua, Eli, Meira, Chaim, Avigayil, Devorah, Evan, Hillel, Ayla, Erez, Dena, Dovid, Dovi, Sara, and Asher. Beloved great-Zaidy to Betzalel, Adin, Barkai, and Yisrael Meir. He never missed an opportunity to celebrate their achievements, attend their performances, or simply be present for the moments that mattered most. His warmth, humour, and gentleness created an atmosphere of joy around him, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to be touched by his unwavering love. We want to thank Celeste for her many years of close friendship and devotion to Paul, as well as her tireless care for him during his illness. Paul is predeceased by his beloved brother, Martin Brown z”l.
A funeral service in honor of Paul’s life will be held at Steeles Memorial Chapel on November 4, 2025, at 12 pm., followed by a burial at the Beth Lida section of Mount Sinai Memorial. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the palliative care team at Mount Sinai, Paul’s personal support workers Carmela, Emelyn and Janak, and the staff at Hill House Hospice for their skilled and compassionate care during his final days.
