Andre Oppenheim, born on January 21, 1947, in Budapest, Hungary was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, in London, Ontario, just shy of his 79th birthday.
Looking at him you could not have seen a less extraordinary man. A head that was slightly large for his small stature, one that seemed to contain more than it could possibly hold, and a heart that matched it. Even though he was a short man, you could always find him in a room full of much taller people by simply following the sound of laughter.
Andre had a passion for dance and would seize any opportunity to perform, drawing crowds with his smooth moves. He was a voracious reader with a keen interest in history. Ask him anything about the Roman empire, the second world war or the mafia and he had answers. He also had an eye for beauty with an appreciation of fine watches, exquisite jewelry, and stylish clothing. He played chess, poker, and was great at shooting pool.
One of his best traits was his ability to love, but mostly it was his humor that people will remember. He wasn’t just a jokester. His sense of humor was deep, beyond that of the average funny guy. It was his quick wit and grasp of the absurd in every situation that made him truly entertaining.
Andre had a unique talent was for making people laugh, especially if he sensed someone was unhappy. His gift was in making them feel special and valued. He possessed an uncanny self-assurance that enabled him to approach and engage even the most daunting characters. He was above all a kind person. People don’t know about the countless acts of random kindness he performed – not just standing by but stepping in to defend anyone being harassed or bullied, without a thought to his own safety. He was adored by everyone.
Andre Oppenheim leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. He is survived by his devoted wife and cherished daughter, who will carry his spirit with them always just as he carried the spirits of his beloved parents and brother. He was small but he filled a big space and the hole that his passing leaves is huge. The world has lost a wonderful human being, and he will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
