David Bernard Kernerman
Passed away Sunday evening, February 8th, just a few weeks shy of his 99th birthday.
Known affectionately as Dovie or Sabbah, David grew up in Toronto, born to Sam and Sarah Kernerman, the second of six children (Morry, David, Ari, Barry, Reesha and Shlaimie). As a young man, he was an accomplished pianist, and he and his brothers Morry and Ari played on the radio as the Kernerman Trio. He graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelors of Music degree, and in his 20s, moved to Israel, co-founding Kibbutz Kissufim with other family members. There, he shared his love and knowledge of music with children on the kibbutz.
David and his wife Tamar moved back to Toronto with their 3 children in 1971, and he pursued a career in the insurance industry. After Tamar passed away in 1995, he remained a devoted grandfather, spending much of his time with his children and many grandchildren. David spent the last few months in Baycrest, where he was loved by all who knew him.
David was kind to all, soft spoken, and an extremely humble man.
He is survived by his 2 brothers, Morry and Shlaimie, and his three children (Uri, Rinat and Yuval), 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
