Claire Benezra, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, in Toronto, Canada, at the age of 85. Born on December 28, 1940, in the vibrant city of Casablanca, Morocco, Claire was the cherished daughter of Marcelle and Jacques Bengualid. She was a beacon of love and resilience, whose journey through life was marked by her unwavering dedication to family, education, and her Jewish heritage.

Growing up in Casablanca, Claire was surrounded by the rich tapestry of Moroccan culture and traditions. It was there that she met her late husband, Joseph Benezra, a partnership that blossomed into a beautiful marriage filled with love and shared dreams. Together, they envisioned a future that would provide their family with opportunities and a better life. With that aspiration in their hearts, they made the courageous decision to move to Canada over sixty years ago, embarking on a new chapter that would shape their lives and the lives of their children.

In Canada, Claire and Joseph worked tirelessly as educators, dedicating over thirty years to teaching and nurturing the minds of countless students. Their commitment to education was not just a profession but a calling, as they instilled the values of knowledge, compassion, and perseverance in their three sons: Dan, Gary, and Mike. Claire’s nurturing spirit extended beyond the classroom, as she created a warm and loving home where her boys could thrive. She was their greatest supporter, always encouraging them to pursue their passions and dreams.

After retiring from teaching, Claire found renewed purpose in her involvement with her Jewish roots. She became an active member of her synagogue and participated in Jewish film festivals, where she connected with her community and celebrated her heritage. These activities brought her immense joy and fulfillment, as they allowed her to share her love for her culture with others. Claire’s passion for her faith and her commitment to her community were evident in everything she did, and she inspired those around her to embrace their own identities with pride.

Family was the cornerstone of Claire’s life. She was a devoted mother to Dan, Gary, and Mike, and a loving mother-in-law to their wives, Sandra, Limor, and Mandy. Her heart swelled with pride as she watched her family grow, welcoming seven grandchildren: Daniel, Kassandra, Stephanie, Noah, Samantha, Chase, and Hudson. Each grandchild held a special place in her heart, and she cherished the moments spent with them, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Claire’s joy reached new heights with the arrival of her great-granddaughter, Charlee, Kassandra’s daughter, who brought an extra sparkle to her already vibrant life.

Claire’s legacy is one of love, strength, and unwavering devotion to family and community. She leaves behind her brothers and sister, Louise, Joe, and Armand, who will forever hold her memory in their hearts. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph, whose spirit will always be intertwined with hers.

A funeral service to honor Claire’s remarkable life will be held on Tuesday, June 2, at 2:30 PM at Steeles Memorial Chapel. Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate the life of a woman who touched so many lives with her kindness, wisdom, and love.

As we bid farewell to Claire Benezra, we remember her as a guiding light in our lives, a woman who exemplified the true meaning of family and community. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and her legacy will continue to inspire future generations. Claire, you will be deeply missed, but your love will forever remain a part of us.
