Martin (Marty) Osler passed away peacefully on August 7th, 2026, in Toronto, Ontario. Born on April 21, 1940, Marty led a life following his passions, touching the hearts of everyone he came across.

Marty was the son of the late Peter and Belle Osler, and brother of the late Sybil Grossman. He is survived by his two sons and daughter-in-law, Brian & Brenda Osler and Mark Osler, and his grandchildren Perry (Marya), Megan, and Mikayla. Uncle Marty was also extremely close to his family in the United States, who he loved and adored with all of his heart.

Marty was an accomplished athlete in his younger years, excelling at every sport he picked up.  Marty was a passionate art and antique collector. This became a life long pursuit for Marty, as he cherished the friendships he developed with dealers and collectors across the country.  Marty appreciated the beauty and historical significance these creations had in our world.  He coveted pieces with original paint and patina, seeing its beauty, never looking at something or someone thinking there needed to be an improvement or repair. He especially gravitated towards those that were whimsical and humorous.

In addition to his personal interests, Marty was a beloved optometrist.  His practice at College and Ossington was an institution for more than 50 years.  His patients were more like friends and family.  His office was a place for people to hang out all day, share stories, and occasionally get their eyes examined. He was known as the “optometrist to the stars” providing optometry services to Hollywood North and the countless artists, musicians and creators in the neighbourhood.  Marty loved nothing more than to get to know those around him and to take the time to enjoy what is most important in life.  Marty injected his sense of humour into every aspect of his life.  He was extremely loyal to those he cared about and always had something positive to say about everyone.

Marty’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the kind and compassionate caregivers of the O’Neill Centre. We are deeply appreciative of the care, love and attention provided to Marty in these last few years.  We will forever be grateful for the comfort and happiness that you gave to him and to us.

Marty’s legacy of love, kindness, and passion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His memory will be cherished by his family, friends, and all those he touched throughout his life.
