Jean Yashinsky (nee Hoffman) passed away peacefully at age 92, surrounded by her loving family on October 15, 2026 at Hill House Hospice. Beloved wife of Morry (z”l) for 65 years.  Devoted and cherished Mom and Mother-in-law to Karen (Abe), Darrell (Nicole), Penney (Irving; and the late Allan Starkman [z”l]), Allison (Michael).  Adoring Grandmother of Haley, Ryan, Brent (Sivan), Hilary, Mitchell (Jenny), Brittany, Noah, Dalia, Elan, Daniel and Benjamin.  Proud GiGi of Maya and Ari.  Dear sister and sister-in-law to May (Karl) z”l, Marty (Sandy [z”l]), Barbara, Larry (z”l) (Francine), Sandy (Davis), Harvey z”l (Renee [z”l]).

She will be missed by her many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, and all who had the pleasure and honour to know her.

Lovingly known as Serene Jean, she will always be remembered for her intelligence, sage advice, spirituality, caring conversations, incredible singing voice, and teaching everyone to express gratitude to others and to respect each others feelings.  When asked, Jean said she wanted all to know that “she always tried.”

A special thank you to Dr. Sameh Basta for his kindness and excellent care.  Dr. Basta is such a blessing and the family will always be grateful for him.

The family is also grateful for the kind care and support received from the staff at Hill House Hospice, who helped make her finally be comfortable and content.  Each and every staff member gave the family so much support and compassion, Hill House is truly an incredible place.
