It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of Sophie Zukerman on Tuesday January 18, 2022 at the age of 97. Beloved wife of the late Ben Zukerman. Loving mother and mother- in-law of Stanley and Cheryl Zukerman, and Janet and Steven Eskind. Devoted grandmother of Jeffrey and Marina, Lisa and Jason, and Blaire and David. Adoring great-grandmother of Benji, Hailey, and Dylan. Proud aunt to Aaron and Bertha Lang, and Brenda and Mordechai Tober. Our heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers Alyssa, Edna, Jenn and Thea for their unwavering kindness and loving care. Sophie was a holocaust survivor who lived her life with grace and dignity. We fought for each other that gave us this enduring strength. We spent summers together with our families. We had a large circle of friends that became like our family. I can’t believe that “Zosh” is gone. She has been such a fixture in my life next to my Fela and “Pinch”. From Florida visits to Kensington visits, her smile and voice was always such a pleasure. Her friendship with my Bubie exemplified the meaning of true and unconditional love. I have learned so much from them. I will miss her so much. May you be comforted by your memories. Zosha will be missed at Kensington Retirement home where she was a treasured friend and neighbour of our mother Nancy. She was a beautiful, kind woman with a good sense of humour and a friendly personality. Zosha and Ben were beloved friends of our late father, Howard (Chaim) z'l and our mother Nancy. Ben and Zosha were active members of the Wierzbnik Society, shared a similar life history to our parents and committed to Holocaust remembrance as well as supporting Jewish and Zionist causes. We adored Zosha. She will be missed by all the extended members of the Kleinberg / Samuel families. Our sincere condolences to all the members of her family. May her memory always be for a blessing.

We will miss her kindness, gentleness, sweet smile and elegance! Sophie exuded positiveness, grace and an unwaivering love and devotion to her entire family. Visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren were celebrated long after they left! Each day she visited to her dear friends of over 60 odd years, if they werent in the dining room she would call them to make sure they were alright! Sophie will be greatly missed! Dear Zukerman Family, We were so saddened to hear about the passing of Zosha z'l (Sophie). She was a lovely woman who always had a bright smile and outgoing demeanour. It was a pleasure to talk with her! We enjoyed seeing her at Kensington Place where she had many friends including our mother Nancy and late father Howard Kleinberg z'l. Theirs was a friendship that went back many years from their days of survival of the Holocaust to the very present. They worked tirelessly together for the needs of the Wierzbnik Society and its members in Toronto and beyond. She will be truly missed. May her memory be for a blessing and may you be comforted amongst all the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

Dear Janet and Stan Harvey and I were devastated to recently hear that your mother passed away. She was a favourite for both of us; of course for Harvey, she was part of Max and Helen's history. For me, I will always remember her for her class and warmth. My earliest memories were the Wierzbnik Society teas that she was so passionate about. She mentored me for a tea at my house; next year I supported her for the tea at her house. All of this represents cherished memories of her generation and their will and spirit to survive. Knowing you both, we are certain her memory will live within you forever.
