Peacefully in Toronto on Saturday, November 8 at the age of one hundred and one, surrounded by loving family and devoted caregivers. Cherished daughter of the late Arthur Grover and the late Annie Grover. Beloved wife of the late Isaac Tannenbaum. Loving mother to David (Mayta), Lynn Collin (George), the late Arthur, and the late Terry Nan (Andre). Cherished “Mighty Gramma” to Michael, Leanne, Laura, Shaina, Andrea, and Evan, and great-grandmother (“GG”) to Lucia, Owen, Rayna, Jacob, Izzy, Cameron, Georgia, Teddy, Rory and Harry. Sister and sister-in-law of Norman Grover (Rita), and the late Shirley Altman (the late Larry), sister-in-law to the late Walter Tannenbaum (Hody) and the late Percy Tannenbaum (the late Brocha). Ada will be remembered with warmth and fondness by her many nieces and nephews.
Born in Watertown, NY while her father was interning, and raised in Montreal, Ada attended Baron Byng and McGill where she earned her BSc. She worked in bacteriology for several years before meeting Issie, a budding physician. The couple married in 1947 and enjoyed an extraordinary, caring and loving relationship for the next sixty years.
Avid opera and symphony fans, she and Issie attended Place des Arts most weeks. Ada’s beautiful soprano voice contributed meaningfully to the synagogue choir until age ninety-four. She was involved in leadership at Golden Age and other organizations and deeply respected for her contributions. She and Issie enjoyed traveling around the world, many trips to Israel being the highlight. Close long-term relationships with many friends and family were of great importance to Ada and Issie. Their home always welcomed their kids’ friends (and parties!).
The family wishes to thank Ada’s most devoted caregivers Celine and Arlene for their exceptional care, as well as Darisa and the other dedicated PSWs who ensured gentle and continued comfort and caring. Much gratitude to Sheena Luck and Dr. Elliot Lass whose care and attention was unsurpassed.
A graveside funeral will be held on Tuesday November 11 at Dorshei Emet Reconstructionist Section, Eternal Gardens Cemetery, Beaconsfield. Shiva will take place at David’s home in Toronto.
