The Schonberger family is extremely saddened to announce that our esteemed patriarch, Alexander Schonberger, Holocaust Survivor (of blessed memory), peacefully passed away at Humber River Hospital in his 93rd year. Alexander, who was fondly referred to as “Zaida” or “Shanyi” was the centre of our world and was the ultimate Gentleman, Family Caregiver, and had the most Loving Character that deeply touched the lives of everyone whom he ever interacted with. Alexander is now re-united with his beautiful wife Edith (of blessed memory) who predeceased him in 2011. Zaida was blessed with three beautiful grandchildren; Ryan, Shayna, and Harrison, who all loved him so very much and are grateful to him for teaching them so many valuable life lessons. Alexander was also a special father to Howard and Monica, who both will dearly miss him each and every day. Alexander was a dear uncle to many nieces and nephews – especially Marvin, Cindy, Eddie, and Robbie (of blessed memory). He is especially remembered by his brother-in-law Alex Eisen and many cousins including… the Schonberger, Kline, Gittelman, Sands, Yakubovitch, Meirovitch, Shermer, and Grossman families. Heartfelt appreciation goes out to his physicians – Dr. O. J. Mandel and Dr. R. Pinto who took wonderful care of his medical needs throughout his lifetime. A special thank you to all the nursing staff of 2 East at Valleyview Residence. Your care and devotion towards Alexander was given with utmost professionalism.

“The song has ended but the melody lingers on…” – keep your souls singing as we cherish the blessed memories of Alexander in our hearts
