With sadness, we announce the passing of Alice Friedman.
A matriarch of the family, Alice/Oma was a fixture of strength and resilience, whose passing leaves behind an empty place at the table but a legacy to cherish and admire.
A Holocaust survivor, she was a survivor in every sense of the word. At the young age of 19, she lived through concentration camps and returned to her Slovak town upon learning her beloved parents and siblings were murdered.
She rebuilt her life, raised a family alongside her dedicated husband, Leo, and after the 1968 Soviet invasion, immigrated with her family to Canada, uprooting herself anew.
An example of rugged determination and perseverance, she is remembered by her children Stella and Steven (Cathie); grandchildren Ronnie (Kristi), Danny (Denise), Mark (Josh), and Kevin (Vivian), and five great-grandchildren for whom she was a loving Oma and an inspiration.
