On April 26, 2020 in her 93rd year after a brave battle with a merciless virus.  Daughter of Rivkah (Myara) and Meir Elkabas of Mogador Morocco. Predeceased by her husband Zoltan Ziegler Z”L. Mother of Cleve Ziegler ( Josie Gold) and Nicole Ziegler ( Austin Shapiro); much loved Meme to grandchildren Zack, Michael, Benji and Matthew Ziegler and Rachael and Leah Shapiro.

She was born in Casablanca January 8, 1928 and immigrated to Canada in 1956 as one of the first Moroccan Jewish immigrants to Canada. She was a selfless mother, a devoted wife, a caring sister and a generous and elegant woman. Her family was her priority but she still developed a career as translator and educator at a time when few women with her background did.

She will be remembered by her siblings and extended family as the consummately giving and generous person she was. She made the best cous-cous  and even learned to make a pretty decent kugel. She never did master the brisket, and often forgot one or two side dishes at the spectacular Seders and Shabbat dinners she prepared over the years, and never took “no” as an answer from dinner guests.

Dementia may have robbed her of her speech but not her happy and dignified disposition. She smiled and laughed and loved until the end.

We will all miss her terribly.
