Allan Aubrey Rubin age 81, passed away at Sunnybrook Health Science Centre on May 18, 2020. Beloved husband of Lorraine (nee Swadron) of 60 years. Loving father of Steven and Laurie Rubin, Lori and Michael Ricer, Bradley and Jane Rubin, Jodi and Michael Kalman, Jennifer and Craig Box. Cherished Papa – best known for “What’s in the pocket Papa?” of Rachel and Noah, Tyler, Lauren, Bethany, Jessica, Jordan, Zoe, Jenna, Shane, Melissa. Great Grandfather of Zev, Mia.

Better known as Al, by all those who knew him. Other than family, his loves were photography and aviation. He combined both when he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force Photographic Branch of Canada and Nato in 1957. He was a proud veteran of the Royal Canadian Legion Central Wingate Branch 256. His passion for photography took him to the Ontario Research Foundation Photo Engineering Department in 1962, after returning home from overseas. The Airport was his second home. He was always on the go and ready to lend a helping hand. His constant smile and joyous laugh will be greatly missed by all.

Our Condolenses to the Rubin family. Many years ago you lived next door to my future sisterinlaw. It was Allan and Lorraine who introduced me to Steven and we are married for 48 years. I met Allan at the Ad Agency where I was working. He asked me if he could give my phone number to his neighbour's brother. The rest is history. I still remember Allan bringing Lorraine Coffee late at night. He was a very devoted husband and father. Treasure your memories.

I just heard the sad news! Al was an "original", a true one of a kind. When he was on the board of Mount Sinai Cemetery, he was always ready, willing and able to help. My dad was a man of honor and integrity. He loved my mom Lourraine with all of his heart and soul! My dad had the most wonderful sense of humour, he always made me laugh. Dear Rubin Family: I had the pleasure of knowing your husband at Camp Yungvelt. I was a camper and he was a waiter in the kitchen, under the tutelage of Ann Tate and my uncle, Karl Langbord. I remember there was always a race during the summer and Alan wiped the competition. We reconnected at many of our Camp and Colony dinners, over the years. It was there that I had the opportunity to catch up with his life and learn more about him. An amazing background. I’m very sorry for your loss and all of us, that knew him.

He was a larger than life personality at Camp Yungvelt where he was a part of the campers and later of the Kitchen Staff. My late parents, Karl and Sadie Langbord were just a few of his many fans! Alan was the adored son of Jean and Leon Rubin of blessed memory. He was predeceased by his sister Elaine Griver who was my cousin and dear friend. Alan was a loving family man and a cherished husband. I wish we had spent more time together. He will be missed by many.

Al was Gilda's first cousin, as Jean and Leon Rubin were her aunt and uncle on her mother Bessie's side. Sadly, we didn't get to know Al's large immediate family, but we would run into Al at various events from time to time, most often at the memorial service for Jewish veterans held at Mount Sinai Cemetery. He was always happy to see us and ready to have a good chat. He seemed to us a "gitte nishoma" as is say in Yiddish. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Al's family - may you be comforted among the mourners of Zion, and may your memories of Al sustain you through these difficult days and for the years to come.

One my daughter was 11 years old and doing a project on gliders I brought her up to meet Al at the airport whereupon Al offered to have 2 gliders delivered to the the schools parking lot. that was Al. I will miss him .

to the Rubin Family. I was saddened today to learn of Al's passing. I'd last spoken to Al in mid-April. He and I had become friends in recent years through his association with Markham airport and his RCAF career. My Dad (Jack. Mcbeth) were ed as both were in photography in the service and Dad and I had visited at the airport. It was that visit which led to our ongoing association and friendship. Sincere condolences to you Lorraine and the entire Family - Al is one of those whom I considered a true friend with a commonality of interests and one never to be forgotten... Our deepest condolences to Al's children and family. The last contact I had with him was on Oct. 18, 2017, regarding acquiring the CF-100 for possible restoration. Security clearance issues had paused the process and I had to drop the attempt. I sent a couple of emails (arwings1), but never got a reply. I thought he had passed away then, as he had mentioned having health issues at that time. Sorry again for your loss. He was a wonderful fellow.

je n'ai pas connu Allan, j'étais trop petite lorsqu'il était à la base de Marville, en France, il était ami avec mon papa, André Siméon, de Virton, en Belgique, c'est en faisant des recherches sur lui que j'ai lu cet avis de décès... il avait fait des photos de moi, j'avais 2 ans, je sais que Allan est revenu à Marville en 2005, hélas je n'ai pas pu le rencontrer... je vous présente mes sincères condoléances.
