Aubish Himmel

Dear Himmel family, I am so sorry to hear of Aubish’s passing. Growing up across the street from your home on Sandale, I often spent more time in your house than my own. Aubish was a gentle, kind and generous man whom I loved and respected deeply. I can’t begin to count how many times I was invited along as part of the family both here in Toronto and in Florida. Whether it was dinner at a restaurant, a movie, a Blue Jays game or Jai Alai, Aubish was always the consummate host making me feel welcome and comfortable. I often think back to the days at The Murray House as well as the time we spent together at Beth Emeth (where Aubish served as President) with fondness. I remember running into Lorraine z”l shortly after I became shul president and she gave me a lot of encouragement and shared with me that the term that Aubish served were his most gratifying years. Of course no boy’s adolescence on Sandale would have been complete without having access to “the collection”. I think a generation of Bathurst Manor teenagers grew up wiser and better educated as a result. I know that the past few years were difficult for Aubish and I hope you find comfort in knowing that he is at peace and is reunited with your mom. Dear Himmel family I wanted to convey my condolences on behalf of my mother Miriam. She and my dad Wolf as you know, were close with your parents and spent many activity filled winters with them down in Hallandale. May Aubish rest in peace, thankfully he and your mom, led long, well lived lives.

Andi and Michael-- such fond memories I have of my childhood trips to Toronto with my parents, Mel and Dorothy, to visit your family...and what meals we had !! My last contact with your family was over 50 years ago when Andi visited Los Angeles when I was in grad school at UCLA. Condolences on your loss. Enjoy and love your family.
