Avram Batner

I knew Avram in the 80s, as I was in his carpool going to work. I thought he was a very nice man and always had such good conversations with him. My deepest condolences to his family. May his memory be a blessing.

Dear Corina, Yoram, and Sarit. I am deeply sorry for your loss. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the entire family, and I am so sorry to be sending love and support from afar as opposed to providing it in person. Avi was a truly special person. While I of course have many warm memories of him from my childhood, the conversations that we had in more recent decades truly stand out. I didn’t see him frequently, but every time I saw him, he always expressed such genuine interest in my life, my well-being, and my family. He didn’t make small talk or discuss frivolous things. He always immediately raised the most important and foundational issues in life … family, health, community, fulfillment etc. It was not just what he said, but also his manner—warm, kind, honest, and always with undivided attention. It was always a joy to see him, and especially to hear him talk about his family. I have a particularly fond memory from a Passover Seder at Corina and Avi’s many years ago, when after the Seder he enthusiastically led all of his grandkids in a pre-bedtime exercise routine. It was an amazing display of affection, but I would have expected nothing less. I pray that the countless warm memories you surely have will provide you with comfort. Please know that you are in my thoughts and my heart during this difficult time.

Growing up, the Batners were a second family to me. Avi greeted me each and every time by singing Happy Birthday no matter the day of the year. I have fond memories of traveling together, jewish holidays together and coming to the house. He was always warm, welcoming, and interested in what I was doing. The Batner Bookstore was (and continues to be) a special place - I would go with my mom on a Saturday and always greeted by Avi who was excited to see us. Always so kind and full of joy. He easily welcomed Brian when he joined our groupa. I am so sorry for your loss. Sarit and Yoram - it’s never easy to lose the unconditional love of a parent. May your memories always be a blessing.
