We knew and loved Barbara for many years. She took care of our older son Adam when he was a young child and we trusted her completely. I was a childhood friend of Joanna’s in Montreal and first knew Barbara as her mom. When all of us ended up in Toronto it made sense to ask her if she might like to babysit for Adam a few afternoons a week. She loved the idea. None of his own grandparents lived here so Barbara took on the role of granny, practicing for the real thing when her own grandson Seth was born many years later…She faced many challenges as she gre older: the loss of her husband Lionel, changes in her physical health. She greeted these problems with a cheerfulness and determination that allowed her to keep going. I was amazed to see such physical and mental relisience in such a diminutive lady! Her ckampion and main support was always there in the form of Josnna. They shared a special kind of liove and devotion. Barbara, dear, we will miss you. We are all better for having known you.
