I am so sorry that Barbara is a no longer in our world. She was a wonderful friend and knitting pal to me. Also a sometime house sitter. She once coached me on how to pronounce latke properly. "If you're going to order them you should know how to ask for them," she insisted! And nice, when I had ordered one ball of every shade of Jameson's Shetland wool for myself, she bought half of every ball from me! I loved her dearly. She was devoted to her family and I know that your loss is much greater than mine.

I am so sorry to hear about Barbara. She was such a warm, wonderful and joyful woman and always spoke so lovingly of her family. I'll remember with great fondness all the times we got together at her condo for our monthly knitting nights. She was always knitting some incredible things including the Chuppah cover. Dear Rob and Julie, I babysat you both when you lived on Glentworth. I'm Ruth and Marvin Sadowski's daughter. Your mother and my mother had a very special relationship and I was privileged to have her in my life as well. Your mom was with me, holding my hand in the delivery room when my daughter was born. Edward J. Sheffman, M.D.

I first met Barbara in the early seventies when I joined the Anaesthesiology staff at the North York General hospital. She was an Obstetrical nurse at North York General and I was a staff Anaesthesiologist. Our paths crossed often after midnight. We became good friends as we worked together and had many wonderful experiences together. Our friendship continued after she was unable to continue in patient care. As her health gradually worsened, our friendship continued as we would meet each other. She will be missed. I want to extend my sincerest condolences to her family. Edward J. Sheffman, M.D.

Dear Family: Barbara was a teen-age friend of my husband Myer (Mike) and I met her only after I married him. We stayed friends and kept in touch, until she was unable to respond. She was one of our favourite dinner guests as she could talk about anything, including her her busy and interesting life.. A courageous individual, who went through many difficult times, but who remained determined and upbeat, she was a person I so admired, and was very proud to call my friend. When I started a new business, she machine embroidered the most beautiful bag with the domain name, which I will always treasure. Every Shabbat at my synagogue, since we moved to Israel two years ago, I sent a blessing of healing to her, and she was so grateful. She said that maybe that kept her going for as long as it did. Barbara kept me up to date about the things her children and their families were doing. She was so proud of you all. Those two teenage friends are now both gone. My heartfelt condolences go to the family.

Barbara and I were school friends and lost touch after finishing high school. I was delighted to meet Barbara again at the Holy Blossom out of the cold. We picked up our friendship as it was in high school and regularly met for lunch to catch up on our lives. Barbara was a courageious down to earth person who will be missed by many. Yvonne Lowe

I have fond memories of Barbara, fellow knitter. Unfortunately, I lost touch with Barbara several years ago, but was reminded of her today as I read an article in the Atlantic about the lost children of Romania. I ‘googled’ her name and found this page from the Steeles Memorial Chapel. Barbara told me about going to Romania to work as a volunteer in the orphanages, picking up the babies and nurturing them. She said it was heart-breaking to see these little ones. She also told me about getting bitten by a scorpion while visiting family in Texas! She was a very special lady, and I feel privileged to have known her.
