PRIVATE FAMILY SERVICE

Passed away on December 27th, 2023 at Mackenzie Health Hospital. Beloved wife of Simon. Loving and devoted mother and mother-in-law of Susan and Jack Lipscomb, Barry and Suzanne Kerbel, Heather Lisner-Kerbel, Steven and Dorit Kerbel, and the late David Kerbel. Cherished grandmother of Shayna and Eric, Lindy, Taryn and Kyle, Haley, Ryan, Brent and Sivan, Michelle and Ed, Shael and Raquel, Chay and Adam, Jay and Elana, and Jaclyn and Mike. Proud great-grandmother of Addison, Devin, Jordyn, Kade, Maya, Ari, Logan, Kaelan, Carter, Savanna, Ethan, Myles, Ava and Taylor.

She had a religious childhood and went to Toronto, Canada after surviving the holocaust with her sister Ruchel.

Although they came from the same hometown, they did not know each other.   Basha actually met Simon (Shima) as a teenager in the concentration camps.  They both immigrated to Toronto following the war.  They got married in 1950 in Toronto and remained together ever since.

In 1971, Basha and Simon opened up the famous Simon’s Deli and ran it all the way until 2007.

She LOVED her devoted husband of 73 years.  Simon and the beautiful family they created- her biggest treasures in life. Her other love was poker where she would clean up regularly at her poker games. She was a bit of a shark at the table. She loved her friends, travel and was happiest when having everyone together for a family meal.

We will miss her dearly and her memory will live through all of us forever.

We love you Bubbie Basha !!
