I knew Berl from various community involvements where we overlapped over many years. I always found Berl to be a fine person, caring of the Jewish community and all people around him, smart, without ego and with a clear view of how to make things better. With Berl in a meeting or in a conversation you were always going to get an intelligence and inspired analysis and recommendation for action. I respected him greatly and am so saddened to hear of his passing.

Rebecca and family, I was so saddened to hear of Beryl's petira. I was shocked. In my long past Shaarei Shomayim days, whatever contact that I had with him was polite and respectful. I of course had a bit more conversations with you at shul and at other venues, i.e. Metro,etc. Please know that my heart is with you at this sad time. To the Nadler Family: I was a summer student and articled at Davies in the 80s and rejoined the firm in 2007. I will never forget that when I rejoined, Berl greeted me with kind words that meant so much to me, “Welcome home”. He was a huge part of Davies’ heart and soul; an outstanding lawyer who exemplified the firm’s culture of excellence. Berl was also a real mensch, deeply committed to his large and loving family (so many beautiful grandchildren!!!) and to the Jewish people. His life was filled with all the things that matter most and he leaves a rich and admirable legacy. May Berl’s memory forever be a blessing to his family. Baruch Dayan Emeth.

Berl went to school with Peter After Berl got married everyone went their way. But from time to time I was in touch. Dear Rebecca and Family, I (Gerry) first met Berl approximately 60 years ago when we were bunkmates at Camp Massad over several summers. I think those experiences helped shape the people we became. Berl's family had a long history of service and devotion to the Jewish community and he carried on that tradition magnificently. Over the years we had the pleasure of seeing him at so many community events and of course at Shaarei Shomayim. We know the last few years have been difficult and hopefully the memories of a life well lived although not nearly long enough will sustain you in the days ahead. BDE

Berl and I connected when I was a student and went to a recruiting reception at Davies - and we talked the entire time about Camp Massad (where my mother went) - so much so that all the other students figured we had known each other for years. We continued to interact when I was at Canadian Jewish Congress and he hosted me for a kosher lunch at Davies after it was closed. I saw him from time to time - once at LaGuardia, I think - and he was always so kind and so deeply nice. He was a gem and I was so sorry to hear of his untimely passing. Though I saw him infrequently, I miss him.

We share in your loss...Beryl was a very good, decent and proud man. His vast knowledge of Judaism, the laws, customs and behavior set him above! We sat on several Committees at the Shaarei Shomayim, Canadian Jewish Congress, and Canada Israel Committee over the years. We didn't always agree, but we always laughed. Deeply saddened to learn of Berl's passing. He supported me early in my career, taking the time to leave a recommendation on my edIn profile at a time when I needed it most. His last message to me was in April of 2022, letting me know he was doing "reading and workouts". He is one of the very few people who has ever taken the time to ask me how I am. I only belatedly learned of Berl's passing. What a shock and loss. I was a partner of Berl's at Davies for 12 years. I remember him as both a long standing and wise member of the firm, but also as someone who had retained a real youthful enthusiasm for the work and who was always enjoyable to work with. I know he was deeply proud of his family, and I can only imagine how much he is missed.

Dear Rebecca, I just found out today that Berl passed away in November. He was a classmate in law school of Gerry Kandestin and he told me today. I am so saddened as I knew Berl from McGill and our work lives following. So saddened-I know that Berl was a kind, sincere, and professional lawyer who so valued his family and friends! We had many discussions in the early days of our possible futures and how we saw the world. Please accept my deepest sympathy. Janis
