Beth Swartz Lichtental left this earthly realm on Feb 3rd after a long battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was 66 years old.

Beth – or Bashie, as she was known to friends –  was a beloved member of the Jewish community in the Durham Region. She was one of the first and most enthusiastic members of the B’Nai Shalom V’Tikvah, Reform Jewish Synagogue of Durham. She later additionally joined and championed the Chabad of Durham region when they first arrived and was a passionate participant in strengthening the Jewish community in Durham.

Bashie, was an entrepreneur and co-owner of a successful small business Baby Shack for over 30 years in the town of Whitby that she ran with her husband Mark. She had a passion for strengthening the heart of Whitby that is the downtown community where their business is located. She had many great friends and memories from this fulfilling work.

Though Bashie’s health was failing for years, many people knew the extent to which she struggled and more importantly fought. Her joy for life and indomitable spirit kept her pushing through the pain. No one can say that she didn’t give everything she had to keep going.

Bashie is survived by her husband Mark and their children, Misha, Jonathan, and Maya. They invite you to join them for virtual service on Sunday, February 6th, 2022 at 12:55 p.m. (please see above for the link). All are welcome.
