HOWELL, Carolyn (née Orvitz). Carolyn, 76,  passed away peacefully in the early morning of March 29, 2024 surrounded by her family. Born in Toronto in 1947, she was known for her quick wit and loyalty to those she loved. She was a deeply creative person with bottomless energy and curiosity. She was a spirited member of a close-knit family: Children Perry, Shayla, Eren Howell (Kathryn Howell); sisters Linda Kornblum (Howie) and the late Sharon Farberman (Leslie); She cherished her role of Bubie Carolyn to her grandchildren Kailey and Dylan Howell, as well as aunt to Tracey Kornblum (Rob Nadler), Jeffrey Kornblum (Tamara Bondar), Ashely Farberman (Shawn Ederman), and Andrew Farberman; and as Auntie Carolyn to her great nieces and nephews Avrah and Oren Pernica, Maya and Ruben Kornblum, and Sydney, Halle and Jake Ederman, and that’s just the beginning – beloved first cousins, aunts, uncles, it’s impossible to list everyone whose lives she touched.   Volunteerism, animal rescue and engagement with her Jewish community were cornerstones of Carolyn’s life and there was no telling her it was too late for anything. She achieved her BFA from York University in her 40’s, became Bat Mitzvah in her 50’s, and began a new career in her 60’s. Perhaps her greatest gift throughout the years was her ability to cultivate and nurture friendships that spanned the globe and lasted decades: from grade school, high school, university, B’nai Brith, Women’s group, Milkweed, Hebrew Group, Games Girls, the Shabbat table with the Shauls, and on it goes.  If you met Carolyn, you could not forget her. She will be sadly missed.
