Steinberg, Charlotte (Sugar)
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charlotte Steinberg, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and pillar of the community, who left us peacefully, surrounded by family, after a life richly lived. Born in Brockville to Fanny and Ernest Schneiderman, Charlottes journey was marked by dedication, love, and an unyielding spirit. Charlotte devoted her professional life to the Jewish General in Montreal, where she worked as a technician in the imaging department. Her commitment to her work was only surpassed by her devotion to her family and community. In every endeavor, she exemplified the highest standards of care and compassion. For 65 wonderful years, Charlotte was the devoted and inseparable wife of Lewis Steinberg. Their marriage was a shining example of enduring love and partnership. In a beautiful and heartfelt surprise ceremony, Lewis asked her to marry him again, reaffirming their bond in a moment that epitomized their deep connection and mutual adoration. Together, they navigated life hand in hand, sharing countless memories and experiences that spanned decades. Their winters were joyously spent in Florida, where Charlotte found solace and happiness in the warmth and sunshine.
Charlotte was a dedicated daughter, caring for her mother with unparalleled devotion in her later years. This same dedication was evident in her role as a mother to her three daughters, Karen, Heather, and Lynn. She instilled in them values of kindness, integrity, and resilience. Charlotte’s love extended further to her sons-in-law, Samuel Elfassy, married
to Heather, and Lorne Cooper, married to Lynn. Her grandchildren, Justin, Amanda, Noah, Clara, Jordana (Blake), Jonah (Madison), Dylan (Victoria), and Nicole (Sam), and her great-grandchildren, Cash, Lucy, and Cole, were the light of her life. The numerous dogs belonging to her grandkids also brought her immense joy and companionship.
Charlotte was also a cherished sister to her late brother Lawrence (Larry) and her late sister Bunny (Gloria). Though her relationships varied, her love for family was a constant throughout her life. Known affectionately as Sugar, Charlotte had a personality that lit up every room. Her unique and characteristic call for her beloved husband, Lewis echoed with love and warmth, a reflection of their inseparable bond. A woman of many passions, Charlotte had a keen eye for antiques and was renowned for her ability to find treasures where others saw
none. Her talent in this area was frequently admired and celebrated. She was fierce and opinionated, always standing up for what she believed in and inspiring those around her with her strength and determination. An avid golfer, tennis player, and cyclist, Charlotte embraced life with enthusiasm and vigor. Charlotte and Lewis have been known for their profound generosity and commitment to their community. Their philanthropic efforts transformed countless lives, spanning across hospitals in Canada and Israel (North York General and
Canadian Friends of Sheba Medical), Baycrest, Neshama Hospice, the Jewish Community Center, and shelters for battered women. Their contributions have left an indelible mark on the community, reflecting their deep commitment toimproving the lives of others. Charlotte legacy is one of love, generosity, and a life lived to its fullest. She leaves behind a family who adored her, a community enriched by her presence, and a world made better by her countless acts of kindness. She will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Thank you Rena, Armel, Cherri, and Olive for their devoted care. Their compassion and dedication provided comfort and support, for which the family is profoundly grateful. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
May her memory be a blessing.
