It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cheryle Gertner on Monday, May 10th, 2021 at age 73 following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Cheryle passed away peacefully in her home with her husband of almost 51 years, Henry Gertner, and daughters, Elissa and Jori, by her side.
Devoted daughter of the late Dave and Helen Gurevitch and daughter-in-law of the late Berek and Regina Gertner. Sister and sister-in-law of Karen and Bryant Cowan. Beloved mother and mother-in-law to Elissa and Dov Atlin, Jori and Asher Lichtman, and Terry and Iris Gertner. Incredible Bubby to Rylan and Shayne Atlin, Lielle, Gave, and Elie Lichtman, and Alexis, David, and Olivia Gertner. Loving sister-in-law to Marlene Brickman and late Michael Brickman and to Eric Gertner and late Elinor Gertner. Cheryle will be greatly missed by all, including her aunt and uncle, cousins, nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
Cheryle lived a beautiful and full life. She had a fulfilling teaching career that spanned over 46 years (even continuing to teach following an early Alzheimer’s diagnosis), enjoyed exciting travels, was a passionate reader, and maintained genuine friendships, lasting several decades. She was a devoted wife to Henry and a mother and Bubby who simply couldn’t do enough for her loved ones. Her values of gratitude, empathy, and honesty live on in her most prized treasures, her grandkids.
Cheryle’s family extends their sincere thanks to Dr. Russell Goldman and nurses Sarah and Michelle who cared for her at home as well as the many caregivers who cared for her like she was their own loved one.
