July 2, 1930 – January 18, 2024

Peacefully in Toronto, Ontario on Thursday, January 18, 2024, in his ninety-fourth year. Beloved husband of Eleanor Borenstein for seventy years. Loving father of Stephen, and Jeffrey. Cherished grandfather of Daniel (Elise), and Eric. Proud great-grandfather of Jonah, and Jake. Dear brother of Julius. Predeceased by his parents Jacob Stober and Sarah Rosenblum, and his brothers Morton and Gerald. He will be sadly missed by his many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends in Montreal, Toronto, New York, Ottawa, Scottsdale, and by all who knew and loved him.

David spent the majority of his extraordinary life in Montreal, growing up in Outremont and raising his family in TMR. He had a fulfilling professional life, spending forty years in the women’s garment industry. Once retired, he loved his snowbird adventures immensely, spending the last thirty winter seasons in Scottsdale with his wife Eleanor. He prided himself on dressing impeccably and exercising into his nineties with daily walks and cardio workouts. He was extremely handy and was available on a moment’s notice to lend a helping hand to friends and family alike. David was a voracious reader and adored watching his beloved Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Raptors. He leaves behind many valuable lessons on the very meaning of family values, humility, and unconditional love. He was the embodiment of goodness, with an alluring sparkle in his eyes. He was genuinely family-oriented, good-natured, funny, engaging, and always approached matters with a positive attitude, all while demonstrating dignity, kindness, respect, and gratitude.

Heartfelt gratitude to his long-time caregiver Cora, and his always-willing helpers Denise and Anne. Special thanks to Dr. Nathan Stall, Dr. Kieran Quinn, Dr. Heather Reich, Dr. Shirley Kopolovic, Dr. Eric Kaplovitch, Dr. Chris Wallis, and the entire team at Mount Sinai Hospital for their remarkable compassion and care.
