It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Gerald Berns on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at age 83 following a lengthy illness. David was a fighter to the end, and then when he was ready, he passed away peacefully.

Devoted husband of Sandra of 61 years, beloved father and father-in-law to Bradley and Marla Berns, Jason and Donna Berns, Trevor and Debbie Berns and Marla and Bill Toulis. He came in to his own as an amazing grandfather to Sam and Rachel, Jamie, Robyn, Chloe, Jackie, Joshua, Brooklyn, Samantha, Stephanie and Adam.  He was a devoted son of the late Moishe and Ethel Bernstein and son-in-law of the late Samuel and Ann Erwinne and brother of Stanley Bernstein and the late Harold Bernstein. David will be greatly missed by all.

David lived a full and adventurous life. He had a fulfilling career as a dentist, cigar smoker, was an avid fisherman and hunter and ensured everything he caught was used to feed others, travelled all over the world, and enjoyed and maintained wonderful friendships lasting many, many years.  He quietly and without fanfare gave to charity and belonged to the Kiwanis Club, helping others.  He loved being a grandfather and enjoyed each and every minute with his many grandchildren. Even though his bark was bigger than his bite, he always had some snacks for the grand-dogs Tibby, Charlie and Chandler.  He was always there for his loved ones. His values of gratitude, empathy, humility and honesty live on in his children, and his most prized treasures, his grandchildren.

David’s family extends their sincere thanks to his caregiver and friend Joy who cared for him at his home as well as the many caregivers who cared for him like he was their own loved one.
