David Steven Long

(January 17, 1949 – January 18, 2025)

It is with profound sadness that the family of David Steven Long announces his passing on January 18, 2025, at the age of 76. David was born in Kingston, Ontario on January 17, 1949, to Samuel Long and Mynne Long (nee Zacharoff). He was the beloved husband of Joanne Louise Long; devoted father to Joshua Trevor Long and Jennifer Andrea Allan (Eric Charles Allan); doting grandfather to Everett Joshua Allan; and cherished brother of Lorne Garry Long.

David dedicated his professional life to the Federal government, where he held various roles in immigration and employment. A passionate advocate for workers’ rights, he also served as a union representative, tirelessly supporting his colleagues and their families.

David was an avid traveler who found joy in exploring new places. His passion for photography made him the family’s unofficial historian, capturing precious memories that will be treasured for years to come. A dedicated fan of the Indianapolis 500, he never missed a chance to cheer on his favorite drivers. Above all, he was a man who deeply loved his family, and his warmth, generosity, and unwavering devotion will be missed by everyone who had the privilege to know him.
