It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of Dora Baseman on Januery 7, 2022 at the age of 98. Loving mother and mother-in-law to Sarah and Morris Perlis. Bubbie to Alan and Pam Perlis, Herschel and Marnie Perlis, Nathan Perlis and Jen Gold, and Michael Potton. She was loving Alta Bubbie to Ethan, Chloe, Kyle, Dylan, Caleb, Noah, Stella and Evie. She will be greatly missed by her niece and nephews. She will be remembered by all as a loving, caring and very unique individual. She was the only one in her large family who survived the holocaust. She was very fortunate to have found her Bashert in her late husband Samuel Baseman. May her memory be for a blessing. I was sad to learn of Dear Dora's passing, but I knew that she has had recent health challenges that were so difficult for her to bear. My mom sits at the table next next to Dora, so I would see Dora every evening at dinner time. She always asked when her children/grandchildren were coming. We knew to say "tomorrow Dora" and that would please her. She noticed people, things, changes and commented. When Hazel cut her hair, she would have the cutest smile and ask if we liked it. I wish I had known Dora prior to her "changes." She was immersed in past tragedies and loss. But her smile lit up her face in the next moment- especially when speaking of her greatest love - her family.

Dear Sarah, Morris and the entire family, I am so so saddend to hear of Dora's passing. SHe was an unbelievelable lady and we all will miss her at Kensington Place Retirement REsidence. I didnt have the pleasure of knowing Dora in her glory days in Los Angeles where her daughter Sarah shared with me so many details of what an incredilble life she lead. Her connection to CHabad L.A. was very a special part of who she was. Dora's jounery was a sad and challenging one from the Holocaust and its horrors to moving to a new country, but what we saw was a strong force to be reckoned with! Nothing was more important to her than her family and the pride that resonated from her when she spoke of her children, grand children and great grandchildren! What an incredible legacy she leaves behind. May her memory be a blessing, may her memory help you through this difficult time. Dora - rest in peace!

Dearest Sarah and Morris: We were so saddened to learn of the passing of your dear mother and mother in law, Dora Baseman, z'l. We had the great honour and pleasure to be hosted by her and her beloved sweetheart, Samuel, z'l during one of our visits to Los Angeles. With them guiding us, always with animated explanations, we enjoyed a grand tour of their neighbourhood, of course, that was after we enjoyed home baked treats. We enjoyed many family smachot with her over so many years. There are many words that describe Dora but I shall select six, that in our mind, best describes this special woman. Dora was tender, resilient, strong, resourceful, kind and empathetic. Dora will be missed by us all but we shall grow and be strengthened by the life she lived and the riches that she shared.
