Doreen Benou

Doreen was a very special person. As president of Association she worked with me as vice president and social action committee chair. If Doreen had an assignment you could be sure that it would be done and done well! I also know her as a bubbe. She loved all her grandchildren fiercely and visited them as often as possible. Doreen, my sister, remains legendary as a nobel-minded Jewish Lady who always respected everyone as the unique spirit each of us are. She personified the courage and strength everyone can naturally, hold dear in their heart, knowing (as Doreen did) how to make our self a better person and our world a better place. She and our Mom often enjoyed exhilarating conversations on any subject (while playing cards, often after a Shabbat dinner) because of the open mind our Mom taught us, and to remember at Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur to forgive and forget other’s and our own shortcomings. To hold our hearts high and our souls filled with love. Doreen’s traditional Yidishkite and magnanimous generosity was exactly what our Mom was so proud of, more than anything, or anyone. It was wonderful to see Doreen learned well; how much a Mother appreciates it when us (all the) children got along. Doreen and Mom were very proud of the love they openly shared. I will always remember our Mom taking us for several days (at the beginning of each school year) teaching us that, above all, I had to make sure to get (Doreen and our brother Mort) safely to and from school. That was the kind of loving safety, which Mom ded in our minds; that family was our top priority. We’ll all miss Doreen and Mom with their knowing smiles of love which they shared with us in the most comforting welcome way. It is wonderful that my children Osiris, Aurora (and Stanzie, to whom I am husband) each experienced that love with Doreen and our Mom. Rest in peace Mom, Doreen and Evan. Each of us will continue to love you forever.

Dear Monie, Zane, Gallit and family, I just found out half an hour ago that my special friend Doreen past away two days before Yom Kippur. I can’t express the shock and sadness that is embracing me right now. Our friendship began in Junior High School; a friendship that survived many life challenges including the sharing of happy times as well as the sharing of sad ones. Our life’s journey took different paths but through each happy or sad turn we always connected. She was an intelligent, smart and caring human being who worked diligently and with honour whatever her task. Our conversations were always uplifting whether recalling memories past or respecting each other’s current realities. We were soul sisters born on the same day, same month, same year. I feel like I lost part of myself. Doreen I will miss you! My and my husband Philipp’s deepest condolences to the whole family. May Doreen’s memory be a blessing and may it be eternal. Dear family of Dorren Benou, I was deeply saddened about the news of Doreens passing. We were friends and colleagues and had difficult and fun times together. Doreen was a fighter and I'm so sorry that she wasn't able to fight this. She had a difficult life and faced it with grace and courage. I wish the family no more sorrow.
