Dorothy Davis nee Flom, Devora bat Eli Melech, was born April 8th, 1933, to Max and Hinda Flom, here in Toronto. She was the 10th of 12 children.
She was raised in the Orthodox Jewish tradition. She followed those traditions throughout her 92 years. Dorothy was generous and thoughtful and spread kindness and tzedakah. She was always there to lend an ear or shoulder, and her hand was always open to anyone in need. Growing up, her children were reminded of the lessons of Torah and her devotion to Hashem never faltered.
She married Cyril Davis, the love of her life, in 1953. They were together for more than 70 years. They had three children: Shelley, David, and Gary. She was blessed to see all her children married. Her love is best remembered by the devotion her children’s spouses, David and Tina, showed her especially in her last hours.
Dorothy was doubly blessed at how much she was loved by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Several others referred to her as their Boobie Dorothy and we were honoured to share.
Dorothy is survived by: her husband, Cyril, her children Shelley and David Elbaum, David and Estelle Davis, and Gary and Tina Davis; her grandchildren: Shauna and Scott, Jordon and Marjan, Alanna, Jonathan and Tammy, Justin and Ilana, Kimberley, Courtney and Tim, Tiffany and Dion, Jayme, Danielle and Will, Catherine and Justin, Chella (pronounced Kayla) and Liem, Ashley, Nicole and Toni; her great grandchildren: Ryan, Alyssa, Cole, Ethan, Ori, Charlotte, Mila, Chloe, Lexie, Ezra, Mason, Noah, Callie, Arianna and Amelia; her sister and brother in law, Barbara and Norman Gilbert, and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was the glue that held our family together. She was funny, she was stubborn, she was quick witted, she was intelligent. She was a joy to all who knew her. She had kind words to strangers in the street. Most of all, she was fierce. And she fought to be with us to the very end.
Dorothy was the kind of person who made the world feel softer just by being in it. She had the extraordinary gift of bringing people together and her kindness and love united us in a way no one else could. Everyone was made to feel important. Her value of family was matched only by her kind and generous spirit. She was our warrior and our hero.
