Loving wife of Michael ע״ה, mother and mother in law to Jerry, Barbara (Ephriam ע״ה), Marlee (David) and Sara. Loving bubbie to Alissa (Jeff), Leora, Adam (Ilana), Amanda (Drew), Lauren (Nolan) and Zachary (Rachelle). Great Grandmother to Emma, Michael, Alexandria, Mortimer, Lenny, Oscar, Etta and Sybil Ann. Aunt and Great Aunt to many.
Dorthy was born in Poland on March 17, 1928, to Moshe Meyer and Sarah Gitala Rakowsky and grew up with her sister Rose (Joe) ע״ה , and brothers Stanley (Ida) ע״ה and Sidney (Peggy)ע״ה.
Dorothy had a full, rich life, taking care of her family, and then later, educating herself and working to help contribute to the household income. She made many good friends along the way and taught us the importance of generosity. This was highlighted by her winning an award for her tzedakah contribution for fundraising for the United Way. When she retired, she discovered her love of line dancing, aquafit and travel. She was president of her B’nai Brith chapter, participated in “Later Life Learning” and Conversational Yiddish.
In 2005 she developed Vascular Dementia and her slow decline began. She moved into the Terraces of Baycrest and was later transferred into the Apotex Centre for a higher level of care.
We thank the many doctors, nurses and care-givers and other attendants at Baycrest for their care.
