Dr. Clarence Rosenhek, M.D.,C.M (1915-2015)

It is with sadness that his family announces the passing of Dr. Clarence Rosenhek on November 5, 2015 in his 101st year. He is survived by his devoted wife Doris (Steinberg), sons Dr. Shoel, Mark (Ruth Darmon) and Steven (Dr. Bonnie Burke),and adored grandchildren Benjamin, Julian, Jonathan, Sarah and Jackson. He was predeceased by his parents Taube and Israel Shoel Rosenhek and his brothers Jack and Moe.

He was born in Campbellton, New Brunswick, and educated at the Faculty of Science, Dalhousie University and at the Faculty of Medicine, McGill University, graduating in 1940. He then enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps and achieved the rank of Captain. He was in charge of the Debert Military Hospital at Camp Debert, Nova Scotia. He practiced family medicine, obstetrics and general surgery in Campbellton and subsequently in Quebec City, and Richmond Hill until retirement.

Clarence was a fixture at Beth Tikvah for many years. His pride in his Maritime heritage, and his sojourn in Quebec city was always apparent. His despair at having unmarried sons ended when they both married and produced his grandchildren. He supported our efforts with our Men's Club, and even attended, with Doris, an international FJMC convention, in the Catskills in 1991. He was the epitome of a "mensch", and always was a delight to speak to and be with. Our condolences go out to Doris and the entire family. May his memory be for a blessing.

Clarence was my doctor for many years.He and Doris were also great friends of my family. Clarence was the epitome of a wonderful doctor,best exemplified by this thoughtful comment. Two years ago Clarence arrived at the shiva for my late wife,Joan..Walking was obviously a matter of some difficulty for him.I expressed my surprise and delight that he had come to pay his respects. I will never forget his response. "Just because you are no longer my patient,does not mean that I stop caring for you." So to Doris,Steven,Mark and Shoel my sympathies on your loss of a kind and thoughtful husband and father. I will remember him with great affection.

To the entire Rosenhek family, we would like to offer our most sincere condolences on the loss of a truly beautiful and gentle man. We have lived two doors down the road from Dr. and Mrs, Rosenhek for over 20 years. Dr. Rosenhek often stopped at my house while walking to the mail box and would stop and enjoy watching my son and I playing sports in the driveway. He would always comment on how tall my son was getting and how much talent he had and then we would talk about his younger years raising his own kids. In all of the years he never missed an opportunity to offer up a motivating comment to my son and myself. It was a great pleasure having him as our neighbour. He was a truly respectful and honourable man who will be missed. Our deepest condolences go out to to Mrs. Rosenhek and the entire family. He will be greatly missed.
