Dr. Howard David Mendelssohn B.Sci., B.Ed., MBA, PHD

It is with great anguish that his wife announces the passing of her husband on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.

Dr. Mendelssohn demonstrated great courage, battling with different cancers for five years. He had a strong desire to live and valiantly displayed this.

He was born on September 11, 1950 in Montreal, Quebec. He and his family moved to Thornhill, Ontario in 1968.  Dr. Mendelssohn attended the University of Toronto, York University, OISE and Lacrosse University. He valued education and he worked in industry as a financial analyst and as a corporate controller for sixteen years. Looking for a different challenge, Dr. Mendelssohn went back to school and he became a high school business teacher and Department Head. He taught within TDSB for eighteen years, He valued his students and enjoyed running DECCA where he brought his team to win a North American championship. He also coached other activities such as golf and “Reach for the Top”.

Dr. Mendelssohn was a devoted and doting husband to his wife, Marilyn, for forty-three years. He was a very bright gentleman with a keen sense of humour. He loved to travel and to enjoy good food and concerts. He was a Renaissance man.

Always wanting to challenge himself, Dr. Mendelssohn was proud of becoming a Bridge LifeMaster during retirement.

Dr. Mendelssohn was a great lover of animals, in particular, of dogs.  He was predeceased by his loyal companions:  Ewok, Jappy, Ginny and JayWok.

May his memory be a blessing.
