Obituary for Dr. J. Barrie Ross

Dr. J. Barrie Ross
April 11, 1929 – October 15, 2020

It is with heartbreak that we announce the death of Dr. J. Barrie Ross. Following 90 years of excellent
health, he succumbed to a cruel illness of 8 months duration. He was a dedicated and renowned
member of the academic medical communities (Memorial University of NL and Dalhousie), and a
devoted member of the Jewish communities of St. John’s and Halifax. He was a kind, ethical man of
integrity who took on any task with such energy and enthusiasm that it inspired those around him to
strive for excellence.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years (Bette nee Olsburgh) and his brother, Colin Ross. He
was a devoted father to Naomi, Brian (Susan) and David (Kitty). He was a passionate grandfather to
Cohava, Tirtza, Temima, Ellie and Amy. He was a wonderful brother-in-law to Paul and uncle to Hilary,
Beverley, Wendy, Nicky, Dan. We would like to thank the staff of North York General where he spent
much time between July and October 2020, and the staff and his friends at Sunrise Thornhill, his home
of 8 years.
He is dearly missed.
