Edith Kirzner (nee Fisher) passed away peacefully on Friday, April 23, 2021 at Sunrise of Thornhill. She was 97 years old. Edith was predeceased by her husband, Jack Kirzner. She is survived by her children: Rabbi Robert Kirzner (Bernice), Judy Skolnick (Harvey), Susan Lecerf (Les) and Karen-Ann Kutner (Brian); her grandchildren: Sara (Kenneth), Aaron (Rebecca), Daniel, Rebecca (Manny), Leora (Adam), Elana (Anthony), Dara, David (Kristen), Derek (Angie), Ryan, Joel (Alicia) Joshua (Jennifer) and Melissa (Mark), and sixteen great-grandchildren. The family want to extend a heartfelt thankful to our Mom’s loving caregiver, Arlene.

Edith and her late husband were proud and extremely active members of Holy Blossom Temple. For many years, together, they headed the Youth Activities Committee of the Temple.

The family asks that you make contributions in Edith’s memory to any organizations you deem appropriate.

We always enjoyed such delightful conversations and she was full of lively questions—and sometimes advice, of course. To cheer your hearts, here is a wonderful thought about this important time of passage: "To consider that after the death of the body the spirit perishes, is like imagining that a bird in a cage will be destroyed if the cage is broken, though the bird has nothing to fear from the destruction of the cage. Our body is like the cage, and the spirit is like the bird. We see that without the cage this bird flies in the world of sleep; therefore, if the cage becomes broken, the bird will continue and exist: its feelings will be even more powerful, its perceptions greater, and its happiness increased… for the thankful birds there is no paradise greater than freedom from the cage." I have many fond memories of the Kutner/Kirzner activities at the Island Yacht Club! And our many family picnics! Was actually looking at some OLD movies from that time of our lives! So special! When I close my eyes, I can still hear her very distinctive laugh! How lucky we all are to have such wonderful memories to help get us through these times! But I also know how fortunate you are for having a Mom such as her. Her experiences with all those grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.... what a blessing. For the Kirzner children and grandchildren: I often think back to my move to Toronto to begin work at Holy Blossom as Youth Director. Edie and Jack welcomed me and, along with Heinz Warschauer, "showed me the ropes." We got along beautifully and shared a passion for the activities, the kids, our community. I haven't seen Edie in many years, but It’s hard to forget someone who gave me so much to remember. The heart that Edie had for others is a rare gift to the many people who had the privilege to know her. Moms stay in a very special part of our hearts even after they pass. May Edie's memory always be a blessing for each of you.
