Eli Ovadia

It is with great sadness the sudden passing of Eli Ovadia on Sunday November 6th, 2022. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife Robin and his cherished daughters Siegal and Ezra. Son of the loving Mazal and the late Gershon Ovadia. He will greatly missed and never forgotten by his brother, sister, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends both near and far.

We are all devastated about our cousin Eli's untimely passing. We will always cherish the wonderful memories we had with Eli from childhood to this past summer. Eli was always helpful to all family and relatives, loved his Iraqi Jewish heritage and Jewish history, offered opinions on numerous subjects and had extensive knowledge about many things, worked hard throughout his life, and integral in raising so well his daughters, Siegal and Ezra, along with his wife Robin. I personally enjoyed Eli's company, conversations and debates, and this will be all missed. But I speak on behalf of all the family and we will all miss Eli very much. May his memory be a blessing. After moving back to the neighbourhood we saw a lot of Eli working around the house he grew up in. We would spend time talking about our children and he couldn’t be more proud of his girls. Eli was friendly to anyone who passed his Ima’s house while he tended so accurately to cutting, trimming and at the same time addressing any motherly orders thrown at him from her throne on the front porch. Love, affection and devoted to the Ovadia family and their good name.

Dear Robin, Siegal and Ezra we are absolutely heartbroken to hear about Eli's sudden passing. Eli and I have been close friends since junior high school, and have experienced so many of life's ups and downs together. We travelled to (and got food poising in) Venezuela together, met our beautiful wives and got married a year apart, and had our children around the same time. Eli's personality was larger than life. He would always speak from the heart and offer his advice - whether you asked for it or not! There are no words to convey what a kind, loyal, and honest person Eli was. Siegal and Ezra, your Dad was so proud of you both. We went to lunch just last week and he lit up telling me about how strong, independent and successful you both are. In fact, he even mentioned that you can both replace your own breaks, which to him, meant he did a "good job." I will miss my dear friend, Eli. He is irreplaceable. Please know that we are all thinking about you all and wishing you strength during this most difficult time.

I haven't seen Eli for a long time but I still remember how much fun he would always bring to all our get-togethers with the families, Ovadia and Van-Ham. I also still remember the challenges to eat all the hot peppers on the table when we had Passover of Hanukkah together. I was a little kid feeling like a true champion because I could withstand the hot pepper challenge--and that was Eli leading the way...and I think back fondly of that time and of Eli's sense of humor and love of life. I'm so sorry for not just his family but everyone who knew him--his passing is a so sad and a big loss.
