Eliezer (Lazar) Greisdorf

We are sorry to hear about the loss of Lazar. It was enjoyable to talk with him at family events over the years. May he rest easy in Gan Eden, and his blessed memory provide comfort to his loved ones.

We were saddened to hear that Lazar had passed away. He had a great love for music and always there was the sound of beautiful music filtering out to the hallway from his his apartment. May his memory be a blessing and he should rest in peace.

I believe I am the only relative of Lazar, still alive in Toronto. Lazar's older brother Boris, z"l", was married to Helga, z"l", the younger sister of my mother Margot (nee Rubin, Perlmutter) Zukerman, z"l", who lived at 2 Neptune for awhile. I was the one who suggested Lazar move to 2 Neptune. Previously, he lived in Etobicoke on the waterfront. Boris & Helga had one son, Michael, z"l", who was younger that me. Both I and Lazar had visited Michael in the Boston area and were there to empty his apartment when Michael died. Lazar spoke about his life during the Holocaust to a group in my house. I did visit him at 2 Neptune. When I was young, I visited him at his house on Marlee Avenue. He had a piano that I could try to play. Boris was then studying to be an opera singer, but eventually became a Reform Cantor, to be able to earn a living by singing. Lazar was fluent in Yiddish, and did some teaching of Yiddish. He worked as a technician for the CBC for many years. He also was a driving instructor. I know that Lazar was frequently walking to Lawrence Plaza and to Bathurst/Wilson for his grocery shopping and for exercise. He had a vast collection of vinyl music records, and was recording on audiotape much music from the radio.

We are very sad about the passing of Uncle Lazar. I’m thankful that I was able to get to know Lazar over the years at family functions and holidays, and that he got to known our children Leo and Ruby. Lazar always had interesting stories to tell. We will all miss him. May his memory be a blessing.

We are shaken by Lazar’s sudden death… As other relatives, we are deeply sad about his passing It’s indeed unexpected as we saw Lazar on Friday when we brought Hanukkah donuts to him … Lazar experienced some difficult periods in his life - as a child he went through Holocaust, migrated to Canada with his family and had to adjust to a new life here. Later in his adult life he was dedicated to take care of his aging family members … In spite of all this Lazar stayed positive, curious, sharp minded and with a sense of humour until his last days… We will miss Lazar and remember our time together and his talks with us about music, politics, economics and life… ‎יהיה זכרו ברוך
